Truck Thief Causes Deadly Crash In Brooklyn Center, Police Say
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- One man is dead after being hit by a stolen vehicle during a police pursuit Tuesday morning in Brooklyn Center.
The Brooklyn Park Police Department says it received a call around 9:55 a.m. from a citizen who had saw their stolen trailer near the area of Highway 610 and Zane Avenue. The stolen trailer was being pulled by a blue Ford truck.
Authorities say officers found the trailer and truck in the parking lot of the Brooklyn Park Hy-Vee. When officers tried to stop it, the suspect driver fled and drove out of the parking lot, through a chain-link fence and onto Highway 610. The truck was dragging a section of the fence on the highway. Meanwhile, the trailer had detached from the truck.
Near Highway 252 and 66th Avenue in Brooklyn Center, the chain-link fence hit a vehicle and fell off, causing that driver to strike a traffic pole. The 75-year-old victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck -- described as a blue 2007 Ford F-250 with Minnesota license plates MJW-169 -- was last seen driving south on Highway 100 and exiting on France Avenue.
Authorities are investigating the incident. Any community members with information are encouraged to call the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension or 911.
