Lake Search To Continue Today For Missing St. Paul Woman
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Volunteers will be back out on Keller Lake on Saturday to look for the body of a missing St. Paul woman.
Kira Trevino has been missing for a month. Police think Trevino's husband murdered her inside their St. Paul home.
Earlier this week, police searched the Maplewood lake, not far from Trevino's house.
A search of the area by her family and friends turned up a plastic bag containing a bloody pillow, pillow case, sports bra, shirt and sponge. Police say DNA on that pillow matches that of Kira Trevino.
Jeffery Trevino is currently being held in jail. He faces two counts of second degree murder. If convicted, each count carries a minimum sentence of 40 years in prison.
On Friday, more details arrived about the case in the form of amended charges. In court papers, prosecutors said a witness saw two men struggling to carry what appeared to be a body wrapped in something onto the lake shortly after Kira Trevino's disappearance.
Police then brought dogs trained to seek bodies to the lake, and the dogs reacted when a hole was cut in the ice. The reaction could mean there is a body in the lake, the complaint said.
