Kylie's Kids: Ava And Audrey

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – There is some incredible research and groundbreaking treatments happening at Masonic Children's Hospital, one of which is a new treatment for leukemia.

The first person to receive that treatment was this week's Kylie's Kid, 7-year-old Ava.

She's already seen significant improvement as she battles her third round of cancer.

"She's a really happy girl. She loves being with her friends and she loves her sister Audrey," Bethany Christianson, Ava's mom, said.

"If I go upstairs, she goes upstairs. If I come down, she goes down," Ava said of Audrey.

Little sister Audrey is just 2-years-old, five years younger than Ava.

"She copies everything I do," Ava said. "That's because we're a match."

To say they have a special bond would be a very big understatement.

"She tells perfect strangers that they're identical twins," Christianson.

Ava's had leukemia three times and it's thanks to Audrey that she's here today.

"Her sister was her match, so she gave her bone marrow to her," Christianson said. "Your sibling is your best shot at being a match and it's only like 20 percent. So for her to be a match it was a really good thing. It was a miracle."

Ava and Audrey now share the same bone marrow and blood type.

"They're five years apart and I wasn't sure how close they'd be, but they're so close. Very, very close," Christianson said. "They always want to be together, which is very, very fun to see."
