Kramarczuk's Sausages Headline Kielbasa Festival
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- You might know Kramarczuk's sausages from their wildly successful outposts at Target Field.
Saturday in northeast Minneapolis they're celebrating the sausage at 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday.
Orest Kramarczuk is the second generation, his son, Nick, is the third at this Northeast Minneapolis institution that's been around for 58 years.
"My dad convinced me to pursue something else first, to make sure this is what I wanted to do," Nick said.
Kramarczuk's sausage brings people from around the state to experience a technique that's hundreds of years old.
Before Kramarczuk's, sausage-makers only used one type of meat and relied on the spices to create different tastes. Now Kramarcuk changed that.
Now, they use ham to make krakowska; the polish kielbasa is 90 percent pork, 10 percent beef.
Their amazing bratwurst - with a hint of nutmeg - has been a huge hit at Target Field, selling 360,000 of them.
The winner of this year's Kielbasa Festival, Make A Minnesota Sausage Contest is a hot dish brat.
"People don't believe that sausage can be this good," Nick said.
The Kielbasa Festival costs $10 to get in, and that includes a beer.
