Kolstad Continuing To Make Strides In Recovery From Assault
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Former Minnesota State University, Mankato, football player Isaac Kolstad is continuing to make strides in his recovery from a brutal assault back in May that left him fighting for his life.
Last week was a busy one for Kolstad as his former college team played its home opener on Thursday in front of a packed house in Mankato against St. Cloud State. It was an emotional day as Kolstad led the team out on the field mostly under his own power and saluted the crowd who has supported him since the assault.
Kolstad's wife, Molly, also spoke publicly for the first time since her husband was hospitalized as a result of the assault.
According to her post on Isaac's CaringBridge page, their family went to the Minnesota State Fair on Labor Day. Isaac Kolstad played cornhole at the State Fair and did a lot of walking.
After the emotional season-opening game in Mankato Thursday, the Kolstad family was invited to Vikings practice on Saturday before the team headed to St. Louis to take on the Rams. The Kolstad family toured Winter Park, watched a portion of practice and met the team. He also got a chance to visit with former teammate Adam Thielen, who made the Vikings 53-man roster out of training camp.
According to the CaringBridge post, Kolstad has resumed physical therapy and regular doctor's appointments, where the biggest concerns are with his right arm and speech.
