Klondike Kate 2013 To Be Crowned In Oakdale
OAKDALE, Minn. (AP) -- Five women will compete for the honor of becoming Klondike Kate, the St. Paul Winter Carnival's ambassador of fun.
The contest will be held Wednesday night at the Prom Center in Oakdale. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 6:30.
Contestants will perform up to three songs in three rounds of competition.
The original "Klondike Kate" earned her nickname during the Gold Rush of 1898, as the most famous dancehall girl of the North.
Performers will be judged on musical performance, song choice, costuming, crowd appeal and authenticity in portraying the real-life character Klondike Kate.
Tickets are $20 at the door, $17 with a Winter Carnival button or $15 in advance.
