Klobuchar Tells Stephen Colbert About Female Senators' 'Civility Dinners'
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar was on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Monday night to talk about how much work there still needs to be done before the legislative branch reaches full gender parity.
"When you look at the fact that, throughout history, there have been 1,917 male senators and only 46 women senators, we have a little catching up to do," Klobuchar said. "A woman senator led the end of the shutdown. A woman senator led the budget. A woman senator the farm bill. Just think of what we could do, Stephen, if we had 50 percent."
Colbert welcomed Klobuchar and also Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, who joked that sometimes the female senators like to gather on the floor.
"(It's) not that we're really talking about anything important, it's just to scare the guys to death," McCaskill said.
Klobuchar also talked about the civility dinners that the women in U.S. Congress have, where they get to know each other and build trust.
Colbert joked with both of them that if Hillary Clinton becomes the next U.S. president, then neither of them will ever get the chance to be the first female president.
