Klobuchar Announces Legislation To Protect Minors Sold For Sex
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Sen. Amy Klobuchar has announced new legislation to combat sex trafficking.
The announcement was made at the Breaking Free" breakfast at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Minneapolis. The breakfast was to benefit local sex trafficking victims.
The legislation will take Minnesota's "Safe Harbor" law to the national level. The Safe Harbor law makes sure minors sold for sex aren't prosecuted as defendants.
Klobuchar said in Minnesota recent reports indicate that on any given night dozens of underage girls are sold for sex online.
"We have incredibly sophisticated criminals that are using the internet," she said, "that's why we need to look at this on a federal level."
The legislation also makes sure victims of these crimes receive the support they need.
