Kevin McHale's 23-Year-Old Daughter Dies
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- The daughter of former Timberwolves coach and vice president Kevin McHale has died.
Twenty-three-year-old Alexandra "Sasha" McHale died Saturday.
The Houston Chronicle reported Sasha McHale had "long battled lupus, an auto-immune disease, and was hospitalized with a related condition."
Kevin McHale recently took a leave of absence from the Houston Rockets to deal with "personal family matters."
Sasha McHale played high school basketball at Totino-Grace.
The Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor released a statement on the passing of Kevin McHale's daughter on Sunday.
"On behalf of the entire Minnesota Timberwolves organization, we are extremely saddened to learn about the passing of Sasha," he said. "While Kevin was with our organization, we all watched Sasha grow up, and become an outstanding young woman. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin, Lynn and the entire McHale family."
Team owner Leslie Alexander said in a statement that he extends his "deepest condolences" over the loss of the McHales' "beautiful daughter." He called Kevin and wife Lynn "loving and dedicated parents who will need our continued support throughout this very difficult time." He said the "entire organization is mourning."
Kelvin Sampson has been the interim coach. There is no timetable for Kevin McHale's return.
