Kevin Love Shaves His Head For Breast Cancer Awareness, Fundraiser
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- In an expression of his support for October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, two-time NBA All-Star and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love shaved his head as part of his "Spreadlove" community outreach program.
Teaming up with four-time NFL All-Pro wide receiver and Arizona Cardinal Larry Fitzgerald, the two are spreading love and awareness in an effort to raise money for breast cancer.
An online video documenting Fitzgerald serving as Love's barber, is now posted on YouTube. By sharing their experience with the social media community, the athletes have pledged to donate $0.25 for every "retweet" on Twitter and "like" or "share" on Facebook and every "view" on YouTube and every "+1" from now until the end the end of the month.
Love and Fitzgerald will donate a total of up to $250,000 to their charities of choice, Bright Pink and American Cancer Society/ Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, respectively.
Love's close friend Betty Goldie was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, and Fitzgerald lost his mother, Carol Fitzgerald, to breast cancer in 2003; so the two share a meaningful connection to the cause.
"This is a special campaign that is particularly close to my heart," Love said. "As an active member of the social media community, my hope is that Spreadlove will reach millions and encourage as many people as possible to support the cause. It just takes one click."
