Kevin Love Named To Initial U.S. National Team
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – For the second time, Minnesota Timberwolves star forward Kevin Love has been named to the initial roster for the U.S. Nation Team for 2014-16.
The roster was released Thursday morning by USA Basketball, and Love was one of 28 players named. That squad will compete in the 2014 World Championships, and if they qualify, the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Love was on the 2012 Olympic team that won the gold medal in London, where he averaged 11.6 points and 7.6 rebounds in about 17 minutes per game.
Love also was on the U.S. National Team that won gold at the 2010 FIBA World Championships. In that tournament, he averaged four points and 4.7 rebounds in just more than seven minutes per game.
Now in his sixth NBA season, Love is averaging 25 points and 13 rebounds per game to lead the Timberwolves.
The U.S. National Team coach staff is led by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and includes Jim Boeheim, Thom Thibodeau and Monty Williams.
