Kevin Garnett Wants To Own The Minnesota Timberwolves
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Former Minnesota Timberwolves all-star Kevin Garnett is telling the world that when he retires from the game he wants to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The 'Big Ticket' told reporters he wants to put together a group and someday buy the team.
Garnett's desire has become the talk of the Timberwolves Nation.
For 12 seasons, the 'Big Ticket' was the big draw for Timberwolves fans.
Now with the Brooklyn Nets, Garnet is openly talking about his desire to own the Timberwolves when he retires.
"I'd rather see him come to Minneapolis than any other team, to be honest with you. 'Big Ticket!' Bring him back," fan Preston Rogers.
Some Timberwolves fans say KG as owner would help draw people to Target Center.
"I think that we would probably put together a good team," Rogers said.
"He clearly still has an affinity, I think, with this market and with this organization, and with Flip," Dan Barriero said.
Timberwolves Super Fan, KFAN's Dan Barreiro, spoke with Wolves head coach Flip Saunders last week about KG.
"I don't know how the subject came up, but I mentioned to Flip everybody wonders what Garnett is going to do next," Barreiro said.
Barreiro says Flip and KG are still close, and Flip believes KG would do better in the front office than on the court as coach.
"On coaching he very quickly suggested that KG would get too angry that guys weren't good enough and he'd be too impatient, and that would work for maybe about a week. But he did mention of him becoming an owner or getting into ownership," Barreiro said.
Barreiro says some fans are still upset with KG for leaving and then the next season producing a championship for the Boston Celtics.
"In the end though, let's face it, it's going to be about how good the team is. And if they ever take the next step that they are supposed to take," Barreiro said.
When WCCO asked the Timberwolves organization to react to the possibility of KG purchasing the franchise, we were told the team is not presently for sale.
Barreiro says he doesn't think anything will happen any time soon.
He said KG still has lots of game left in him and owner Glen Taylor appears to be re-energized and re-focused on his franchise.
