Ellison Arrested After Protesting For Immigration Reform
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison joined a massive rally for immigration reform on Tuesday, alongside six other members of Congress, and ended up getting arrested over the act of civil disobedience.
"The house (immigration) bill has just sat there," Ellison said. "We wanted to refocus the attention of the nation on the immigration struggle."
Ellison told WCCO's Edgar Linares that about 2,500 people came together on Tuesday to protest.
Keith Ellison: 'I Was Arrested This Afternoon Protesting'
"We need to bring the people who are in the shadows out of the shadows because an undocumented worker is an exploited worker," he said. "They're someone who can't go to systems of accountability like the department of labor to complain about things that might be going on at the job. And they work for less than a regular worker would, which cuts down on the wage rate."
