Kayaker Rescued After 30 Min In Lake Michigan
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) -- A 28-year-old kayaker is recovering after his watercraft overturned in Lake Michigan, leaving him in 58-degree waters for about 30 minutes.
The Sheboygan man was rescued Friday evening by the U.S. Coast Guard. He was wearing a life jacket and wetsuit, but the Coast Guard says he was showing signs of hypothermia when he was found.
Waves were 8 to 10 feet high when the Coast Guard launched its rescue boat. Authorities found the man straddling his partially submerged kayak. A paramedic team treated him at the scene.
A Sheboygan Press report says the man's name hasn't been released.
The Coast Guard reminds Great Lakes mariners to be mindful of an ongoing heavy-weather system. Authorities recommend that all boaters carry a personal locator beacon to help rescuers find them.
