Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office perform two water rescues on Saturday, urge safety
KANDIYOHI COUNTY, Minn. — The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office is urging hunters to use caution when on the water after responding to two different water rescue incidents Saturday.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office says they responded to the Middle Fork Crow River in New London Township just after 6:30 Saturday morning. They received a report of two stranded duck hunters who had early signs of hypothermia.
The sheriff's office says the hunters, aged 33 and 13, had to abandon their boat and swim to a nearby island after their boat filled with water in 30 MPH winds. The two hunters were rescued and were medically checked out before being cleared. Their boat was towed back to shore by the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.
Just after 1pm officials responded to another water rescue after a 32-year-old hunter's boat sank.
Officials say that the 32-year-old's boat filled with water and sank in wind gusts up to 30 MPH. He was able to get to an island but was stranded. The sheriff's office was able to rescue the hunger and return him safely to the lake access area.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office urges hunters and other motoring boaters to use caution when on the water on days with unpredictable and strong winds.
