Jury: Man Guilty Of Murdering 21-Year-Old With AK-47
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Ramsey County jury convicted a 21-year-old St. Paul man of premeditated first-degree murder Monday in regards to a shooting that took place after a house party last year.
The jury found Aaron Morrow guilty of one count of first-degree murder for fatally shooting 21-year-old Joe Rivera with an AK-47 assault rifle on Sept. 26, 2010, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office said.
The jury also found Morrow guilty of two counts of attempted first-degree murder for shooting at two other men in the same attack. He wounded one of the men, David Chavez, in the hip.
According to the criminal complaint, police responded to the shooting at 3 a.m. near 12 Oakley Avenue, where they found Rivera with bullet wounds in his chest and side. Police said they found 15 bullet shells near the scene.
Chavez said Morrow's friend accused him of stealing a cell phone at a party on Prior Avenue earlier that evening. It was after Chavez, Rivera and another man left the party that Morrow approached them with an AK-47. He opened fire, shot Rivera multiple times and then rode off in a get-away vehicle.
