Judge Lowers Bail In Innocence Project Case
ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (AP) -- A Douglas County District Court judge has lowered bail for a man who won a new trial after he was convicted of killing his infant daughter.
Judge Ann Carrott reduced bail for Michael Hansen from $250,000 to $150,000 Thursday. That means the defendant will have to come up with $15,000 for his release.
The Innocence Project of Minnesota has been working to exonerate Hansen, who was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2004 death of his 3-month-old daughter, Avryonna Hansen. Innocence Project attorneys don't dispute prosecution testimony that the baby's skull was fractured, but say the injury occurred six days before her death when she was with her mother and fell out of a shopping cart.
Minnesota Public Radio News says Hansen's new trial is scheduled for October.
