Jordana's Blog: Gender Reveal Parties
So this is a thing. Gender reveal parties. Yes, really. Bloggers have been making fun of these parties for years on the internet, but I went to my first one this weekend. Say what you want, it was sweet. Here's how it works... expectant couples who find out the gender of their baby invite family and friends to share the news. It's a big deal. Bakers make a special cake with either pink or blue frosting on the inside, or if you want to up your baby game pink or blue candies that spill out of the cake when it's cut. Some have a balloon that erupts with pink or blue confetti when popped. These shin digs get a lot of ribbing on the internet but this weekend at my friends' it was cute. Keep in mind, there can be that moment when the gender is revealed and your favorite uncle or grandpa who really wanted a boy sees pink frosting gushing from hollow center of a very overpriced cake. Cue bathroom break to hide disappointment. #partyfoul
I say any reason is a good one to have a party and be with people you love. Millennials don't let old people bring you down when you want to celebrate for any reason, just remember to invite me! Old people, don't be jealous that you didn't have a gender reveal party, when it's your grand-baby you'll be very excited to pay for that overpriced cake!
Mazel Tov to my friends the parents of a (still in-utereo) baby girl!
