John Rash Previews Election Day On WCCO
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – About three million people across the state are expected to cast their ballots on Election Day, and millions more will do the same across the nation.
There are several tight races across the state, but one of the most pivotal in the entire country is the Presidential race. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney each visited key states on Monday in a final effort to grab any last-minute votes that are still out there.
The polls opened at 7 a.m. and will close at about 8 p.m. Once the polls close and results start coming in, people will be glued to their televisions to see who will come out and top and lead the country for the next four years.
Political analyst John Rash with the Star Tribune joined the WCCO-TV Morning Show to preview Election Day. His first main message: If you plan on staying up to watch all the results, it's going to be a late night. We may not have a Presidential winner until very early Wednesday morning.
"I suggest the viewers tune in early tomorrow morning because that might actually be about the time we know who wins," Rash said.
He said that's for several reasons. National polls have the Presidential race at a virtual tie heading into Election Day. Networks broadcasting results will have to use caution in calling the race with exit polls because those results have been inaccurate in the past. He also said it's very possible there will be voting issues across the nation with tight races, especially in the northeastern U.S., which was hit last week by Hurricane Sandy.
Rash also said locally, he expects Michele Bachmann to have a tighter race than she's had in year's past against challenger Jim Graves.
