John Rash Analyzes Second Presidential Debate
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney squared off in the second of three debates before Election Day Tuesday night, and the consensus was Obama did much better than the first debate.
Obama and Romney didn't hesitate to go after each other on key political issues, including the economy and solving the national deficit.
John Rash, a columnist and editorial writer for the Star Tribune, helped WCCO This Morning break down the debate. Rash said Obama was much more aggressive and in more of a lean forward mode. The debate was in a town hall format, which allowed undecided voters to ask both candidates questions on key issues. Rash said that allowed Obama to be much more engaging with both Romney and the undecided voters in attendance.
It's a highly-competitive race with two highly-competitive individuals, and at times in the second debate Romney and Obama seemed to circle each other and get into each other's space, almost like boxers in a ring.
Rash said Romney appeared to be a little less comfortable in the town hall format, but still did very well and proved to be very competitive against Obama.
