Jobless Rate Holds Steady In Latest Labor Report
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The latest labor report was released Friday, and the outlook hasn't changed much.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the private sector added 172,000 jobs last month, but the unemployment rate went up slightly from 8.2 to 8.3 percent. BLS Commissioner John Galvin said the unemployment rate was essentially unchanged.
The report shows that manufacturing continues to be the leading area for job growth as 25,000 jobs were created in July. There were also close to 13,000 jobs created in motor vehicles and parts.
Other areas with job growth included professional and business services, education and health services, leisure and hospitality and wholesale trade.
The federal government actually lost 9,000 jobs last month. The report says since February 2010, state and local governments across the nation have lost 485,000 jobs.
