Investor Group Seeks Land For Iron Range Racetrack, Casino
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The debate over expanded gambling in Minnesota could soon be broadened to include a proposed speedway and casino near Hibbing.
An investor group hoped to take a step forward Wednesday night through a purchase option on land owned by the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board. The board was to consider the Iron Range Racing Complex proposal at a meeting.
According to a board memo made public Wednesday, the investor group envisions a year-round raceway that could include a horse track, card room and slot machines in what is commonly called a racino. The gambling measures would require legislative approval.
Minnesota lawmakers are expected to debate whether to authorize casino options in the Twin Cities area as seeks a state budget fix.
