Investigation Into Lino Lakes Officer Shooting Closed
LINO LAKES, Minn. (WCCO) -- The investigation into a Lino Lakes officers' shooting has closed without anyone being able to determine who fired the bullet.
According to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, officer Chad Schirmers was struck by a bullet ricochet on May 5 at the Anoka County Law Enforcement shooting range.
He was taking part in a drill along with Lino Lakes officers Curt Boehme and Zach Johnson.
Schirmers was not wearing a bulletproof vest at the time. He was struck somewhere in the abdomen.
Schirmers was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center by a police escort after the shooting, and was released from the hospital not long after without major injury.
The BCA concluded that there was no reason to believe Schirmers had been deliberately fired upon, and because there were multiple officers shooting the same .40 caliber handguns at the time, it would be impossible to figure out whose bullet struck Schirmers.
