Inver Grove Heights Man Sentenced In Armed Robberies
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – A 21-year-old Inver Grove Heights man was sentenced to nine years in prison in St. Paul Federal Court Friday for the June 2011 armed robberies of Super America stores of Maplewood and White Bear Lake.
Joseph Laurence Forliti was indicted on two counts of interference with commerce by robbery on Aug. 8, 2011, and pleaded guilty on Nov. 9, 2011.
In his plea agreement, Forliti admitted to robbing the Super America store in Maplewood at gunpoint on June 14, 2011. He told investigators he that he and another man entered the store, pointed a BB gun at a store clerk and demanded cash from the register. Forliti admitted to getting about $200.
Forliti also admitted to committing the same type of armed robbery later that day at Super America in White Bear Lake. According to court documents, the Maplewood robbery happened just after midnight on June 14, 2011, and the White Bear Lake robbery happened at about 5:15 a.m.
Forliti got $181 from the White Bear Lake gas station before being arrested by Washington County Sheriff's deputies.
