Interior Design Co. Files Lawsuit Against Fmr. Vikings WR
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A week after the Vikings let go of Bernard Berrian, the wide receiver was hit with lawsuit. An interior design company filed the suit, claiming Berrian did not pay his bill.
On the 20th floor of the Ivy Tower in Minneapolis, Berrian's penthouse features decor by Kamarron Design, Inc.
"She did the whole condominium," said David Olsen, an attorney representing Kamarron Design, Inc.
Two years after the work started, the designer and former Vikings wide receiver are at odds over the bill.
"When it came time to pay, delayed, delayed, delayed and, ultimately, he refused to pay," said Olsen.
On Tuesday, Kamarron Design filed a lawsuit in Hennepin County District court, seeking reimbursement of more than $204,000 to pay for furniture, products and labor. It's money the company fronted, thinking it would be paid back.
"She's extremely disappointed with the way it has come out," said Olsen.
The complaint states Berrian paid a portion of the bills in the beginning, but started falling behind in 2009.
"Over period of several months, requests were made for copies of invoices and additional accounting info, all of which was provided," said Olsen.
Olsen said Berrian has yet to give a reason for non-payment.
"Mr. Berrian approved everything, accepted everything and never had complaint about the service or the products," said Olsen.
Legal action has now become the only option.
"We'll continue to try to settle it," he said.
An opportunity that was meant to grow business with a high profile client did not have the expected result.
"For a small business, it's a huge balance to carry," said Olsen.
Both Berrian's lawyer and agent have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
