Interior Dept. Nullifies Duluth's Casino Contract
DULUTH, Minn. (WCCO) -- The City of Duluth has lost another fight to get some of the money from the tribal casino in its downtown district.
The U.S. Department of Interior says the city's lease agreement with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is invalid.
The deal had given the city about $6 million per year in electronic gaming revenue from the tribe's casino.
But because the deal violated federal law, the tribe stopped making payments, triggering a legal battle between them and the city.
Duluth officials say they'll continue to pursue legal action.
