With the oil boom in North Dakota and the demand for domestic oil growing, there's a need for silica sand that's used to drill for the oil.
The silica sand mining industry exploded in Wisconsin over the past few years, with mines growing in number from about 10 to more than 100.
WCCO's Susie Jones has the following special report called 'Inside Minnesota'. It looks at one small town in southern Minnesota that is now the epicenter of the sand mining debate.
