Inmate Found Hanging In Anoka Co. Jail
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Anoka County Sheriff's Office said an inmate in custody committed suicide this week by hanging himself with a bed sheet while in the county jail.
Steven James Carroll, 28 was found hanging from a metal seam in the frame of a cell window on Thursday around 2:48 p.m.
He was alone in the cell.
The housing unit was in lockdown at the time and all inmates were being checked on every 15 minutes.
Sheriff James Stuart said in a press release that Carroll was fine when they made the rounds at 2:30, but by the next check they found him hanging.
He was rushed to Mercy Hospital where he remained until he was pronounced dead Saturday morning.
Carroll was taken into custody on Tuesday. He was being held on charges of felony domestic assault, burglary and disorderly conduct. There was also an arrest warrant out for him in Florida.
Police said Carroll left a suicide note in his pocket. They continue to investigate his death.
