State Patrol: 5-Year-Old Girl Dead In Scott County Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Light snow and freezing drizzle have left roads slick in much of Minnesota and are being blamed for several accidents.
The State Patrol temporarily closed an icy part of Interstate 35 in Scott County as troopers responded to a fatal rollover around 8:15 p.m. Sunday. The single-vehicle crash happened at the Elko-New Market exit.
The Patrol says a Yukon lost control while heading northbound, entered a ditch and rolled. One juvenile -- a 5-year-old girl from St. Paul -- died at the scene. Another juvenile was ejected and airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center.
It was one of dozens of spinouts and crashes reported by the Minnesota Department of Transportation on Sunday night.
MnDOT reports highways are still slippery across much of greater Minnesota on Monday morning.
The National Weather Service forecasts light snow with freezing rain possible Monday night into Tuesday across much of Minnesota. Dense fog is forecast for parts of southeastern Minnesota Monday morning, including Rochester and Austin.
