Ice Out Declared On Lake Minnetonka
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It may not feel like spring this weekend with colder temps, but the lakes will at least look like it from here on out.
The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and the Freshwater Society declared the lakes officially ice-free Thursday morning.
The Sheriff's Office declares an ice out when a boat can go through the "Narrows" of Lake Minnetonka, around Big Island and back to the Sheriff's Water Patrol Unit.
Usually, the ice out takes place on April 15 on Lake Minnetonka.
The Freshwater Society said this year's ice out comes 12 days later than last year, when the lake was ice-free on April 2.
