Ice Carvers Face Mild Conditions At St. Paul Winter Carnival

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's not easy being the coolest celebration on earth when the temperatures are in the 40s.

Good luck if you're trying to do ice sculptures. But the carvers were out and doing their best on Sunday at the St. Paul Winter Carnival in Rice Park. The conditions were excellent for spectators checking out the work.

In the St. Paul Winter Carnival's snow sculpting competition, first place in the competition and the Artist's Choice went to "Attack of the Hookjaw" by Team Dino Flight. Second place went to The Shadow Men for "Out Cold." The Third Place, Vulcan's Choice and People's choice went to "Ginger Snapped."

The Winter Carnival is celebrating 130 years of events. Next Saturday, they'll wrap things up with a golf tournament and Frozen Bean Bag Competition. Then there's a parade with fireworks in the evening.
