MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Metro Transit says everything went smoothly as a first-of-its-kind bus station opened for business during the Monday morning rush hour.
The $5 million station has two levels at the 46th Street bridge over I-35W in south Minneapolis.

Here's how it works: local buses drop passengers off on the upper level. Those passengers then take stairs or an elevator to the lower level, where they board express buses for downtown Minneapolis.
The service is provided for southbound commuters, as well.
It's all designed to speed up the express bus system, because those buses will never have to leave the freeway.
More stations are planned on the so-called BRT (Bus Rapid Transit System) between Lakeville and Minneapolis.
The entire BRT service is scheduled to start in late 2012.
