Hutchinson Man Sentenced For False Bomb Threat
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 26-year-old Hutchinson man was sentenced to 33 months in prison for reporting a false bomb threat to the FBI, according to the United States Attorney's Office.
Daniel Gerald Peterson admitted in a plea agreement that on Sept. 13, he conveyed a false tip to the FBI that a third party was planning to bomb the Bank of Oklahoma Center, which is a sports arena in Tulsa, Okla.
The Attorney's Office says the FBI conducted an extensive investigation and ultimately determined the threat was fabricated.
"The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force is dedicated to the protection of our citizens, and it takes all threats very seriously, even when they turn out to be hoax threats," said Ralph S. Boelter, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Minneapolis Field Office. "The resources dedicated to investigating this matter were no different than had the threat been genuine."
Peterson was indicted on April 12 and pleaded guilty on June 28.
