Husband Guilty Of Fatally Stabbing Wife 65+ Times
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 54-year-old man has been convicted of killing his 39-year-old wife at their Brooklyn Park apartment last year.
Prince Oliver Moore Jr. was convicted of stabbed his wife Mauryn Moore more than 65 times in the attack. He had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
The jury deliberated for about two hours on Monday before coming to their verdict.
Police responded to the Villa Del Coronado Apartments on Zane Avenue in Brooklyn Park early one morning in September 2011 on a report of a disturbance.
When officers arrived, they found Mauryn Moore dead. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later said she died from multiple sharp blunt force injuries. Several of the wounds were to her hands and arms, indicating she was trying to defend herself.
The tip of the large knife Prince Moore used was found broken off in Mauryn Moore's back.
Prince Moore's sentencing is set for Thursday. He will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office said, a mandatory term for first-degree murder convictions.
Investigators said the Moores had a history of domestic violence leading up to the murder.
"October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and this case shows how much work remains to be done. Too often, women silently suffer beatings at the hands of boyfriends and husbands," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said. "Sadly, we see too many cases where the violence doesn't end until the woman is killed."
