Hundreds Greet Norwegian King, Queen
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Hundreds of people turned out for the rededication of Enger Tower in Duluth by King Harald and Queen Sonya of Norway.
The crowd waved Norwegian flags and sang the Norwegian national anthem in Enger Park Monday where King Harald followed in the footsteps of his parents, Prince Olav and Princess Martha, who originally dedicated the tower in 1939.
The royal couple arrived from Minneapolis by helicopter and attended a $100-a-plate luncheon at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. The Duluth News Tribune reports King Harald told the crowd that there is still a "strong Norwegian footprint" in Minnesota where he estimated there are 1 million Norwegian Americans.
