Hundreds Expected At New Year's Ice Dive Despite Frigid Forecast
EXCELSIOR, Minn. (WCCO) -- If you're looking for something different to do on New Year's Day, there's always the option of chilling your bones at the annual ice dive in Lake Minnetonka.
Organizer Bill Wenmark says the event draws hundreds of brave souls from all across the country and cities as far away as London.
And with below-zero temperatures expected tomorrow morning Wenmark is predicting a mind-numbing experience.
"We've always said before that all the divers that go in will erase their 'hard drive' from 2012 and get a fresh re-start for 2013 because everything is going to disappear from their brain once they jump into the water" said Wenmark.
This will be the 23rd annual ice dive with proceeds going to local fire departments and several other organizations.
It begins at 8:30 Tuesday morning at the Bayview Event Center in Excelsior.
