H.S. All-Star Football Game Makes U.S. Bank Stadium Debut
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game has moved from the summer to just after the season.
And the venue is now U.S. Bank Stadium. Why all the upgrades? Well, it's simple.
"The Vikings decided they want to fund the game for us," said High School All-Star Football Chairman Jim Dotseth. "We've been running it kind of on a shoestring for a few years, having kids fund by selling ads."
So they come together; for some to showcase skills to possible college coaches. But there is more than that.
"It's a great honor. I've been waiting to showcase my skills for a while," said D'Angelo Moore, a defensive back at Minneapolis Washburn High School. "Once I got the letter that I was able to join, I'm just excited to be here, meet some new friends."
Some have already played in U.S. Bank Stadium in the state playoffs, and their futures are in place.
"I'm committed now to play football at the University of Minnesota. I'm looking forward to getting up there," said Blaise Andries, a tackle for Marshall High School. "I think it will be a fun future. I'm going into actuarial science, which is a lot of math."
But at the end of this week, it is about promoting the game on the biggest stage in the state.
"U.S. Bank Stadium is the most expensive high school stadium in the country [laughs]!" Dotseth said.
Kickoff is Saturday at 3 p.m.
