MDH: 1 Dead, 14 Ill From Hopkins Legionnaires' Disease Outbreak
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Legionnaires' disease outbreak connected to Hopkins has claimed a life, and is now up to 14 confirmed cases.
The Minnesota Department of Health made the announcement Wednesday, and said they are still investigating the outbreak with the help of officials from the Hennepin County Public Health department and the city of Hopkins.
All of the people who are currently ill -- and the patient who passed away -- were exposed to the disease by either living in, working in or visiting Hopkins before Sept. 9.
MDH officials say the victims range in age from their 20s to their 90s, and most are still hospitalized.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the average death rate for Legionnaires' disease outbreak is 10 percent, and the Hopkins-related cases fall into this range.
