Hopkins Gets 3-peat With 64-52 Win Over EP In 4A
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Joe Coleman scored 22 points and Marvin Singleton muscled his way inside for 15 points to help Hopkins beat Eden Prairie 64-52 on Saturday night, the third straight Class 4A championship for the Royals.
The last team to win three titles in a row in Minnesota boys high school basketball was Braham in Class 2A from 2004-06.
With the broad-shouldered Singleton and long-armed Zach Stahl inside, the strong-and-smooth Coleman on the wing and super-quick guards Siyani Chambers and Demetrius Martin in the backcourt, the Royals again showed who rules the sport in the state by pulling away from the Eagles in the second half.
Grant Soderberg had 16 points for Eden Prairie, which handed Hopkins its only loss on Feb. 1.
