Hope 4 Youth Open Homeless Shelter In Coon Rapids
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A first-of-its-kind homeless shelter is now open in the north metro.
A recent estimate in the Anoka-Hennepin school district found more than 500 young people in the county spend their nights without a secure place to call home.
Now, there's a place for them to go.
Hope 4 Youth's Hope Place opened in Coon Rapids Monday.
It's a special transitional shelter for children and teens who find themselves on the street. Staff will also work to help them find careers that they're interested in.
"We're going to help them figure that out and make it so when they move out of Hope Place they will be able to afford their own permanent housing and they'll be off to the races into adulthood, never to be homeless again," Lisa Jacobson, executive director, said.
Hope Place was made possible by private donations.
