MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the homeless man who died Wednesday morning after starting a fire to keep warm in a vacant Minneapolis house.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said 57-year-old Lucious Varnado died of apparent smoke inhalation at 1:21 a.m.
Authorities found Varnado unconscious when they arrived at the house, located on the 1400 block of Barnes Avenue.
Varnado built the fire on the floor of a bedroom. The fire weakened the floor, causing two firefighters who responded to the scene to fall through and suffer minor injuries.
