Home Explodes In Brooklyn Park, No One Injured
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (WCCO) -- Only pieces are left after an unoccupied home in Brooklyn Park exploded Wednesday afternoon.
The home, located at 7505 Kentucky Ave., is a duplex. The side that exploded was unoccupied, however there was a person inside the other side of the duplex at the time of the explosion.
It was just after 2 p.m. when the blast rocked the neighborhood.
"It was really scary, it went kaboom and my windows were shaking and everything," Denise Holger, a nearby neighbor.
The duplex had just been renovated and someone was about to move in. CenterPoint said the problem was not with the gas line but instead, occurred inside the home.
"What's important now is that customers in the area understand that natural gas service has only been disconnected to this one residence and area and the area has been made safe," said Becca Virden, spokesperson for CenterPoint Energy. "There are no gas leaks in the area."
Two men live on the other side of the duplex that exploded but did not want to be interviewed.
Firefighters say the damage is limited to the one side and structure. Considering the force of the blast, neighbors feel fortunate.
"Luckily, there wasn't nobody inside because they could've been hurt, so that's good," said Yolanda Eggleston, a neighbor.
There were no injuries in the incident.
