Hold Onto Your Hats, Mpls. Prepares To Celebrate The Kentucky Derby
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – With the sun expected to be shining this Saturday, the Kentucky Derby is a great excuse to rock awesome head gear.
WCCO This Morning's Ali Lucia spoke with one local milliner, Karen Morris, about the hat trends for this Derby season.
Morris, who is based in Roseville, has the traveled the world to learn from some of the best milliners. She is now the CEO Founder of Karen Morris Millinery.
She describes her design style at KMHats as "simple and small." Morris said fascinators are really popular heading into this weekend.
"I think the trend this year will be more straw," Morris said.
Her hats can be pricey but are fit to every client's personality and style.
"Over the years, I think [derby hats] liked to use feathers, but I think now it's more a free form style, more creative. You have to use your imagination and put a shape together," Morris said.
Morris' hats will be on display this weekend at the Artful Living Kentucky Derby Party. That party is at the University Club of Saint Paul this weekend and starts at 2 p.m. Tickets are $45.
The Women's Club of Minneapolis and Betty Danger's Country Club in Minneapolis are also hosting Kentucky Derby parties.
