Hmong History Comes Alive At Minnesota History Center

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new exhibit at the Minnesota History Center highlights the Hmong experience in Minnesota.

"We Are Hmong" opens Saturday and is free with general admission to the center.

Wameng Moua, the center's Hmong cultural advisor, says the exhibit is designed for young and old alike.

"For our elders, it's looking back and actually feeling that travel, that journey we got to come to Minnesota, and for them to see images, and for them to remember that road," Moua said. "And for the kids, it's to see where you came from. Because, I mean, kids these days, they don't even know the Hmong culture anymore. So to see all this they'll be like, 'Oh my gosh, this is who I am!' Hmong people are, now, really true Minnesotans, that we belong here, that this is our home, and that we've actually spiced up Minnesota with our food and our culture and our gardens."

The Minnesota History Center is just a short walk from the high school hockey tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in downtown St. Paul.

Admission to the center is $11 for adults, $2 off for military and students, $6 for kids aged 6 to 17 and free for kids 5 and under.

It's open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
