High School Senior Asks Ricky Rubio To Prom On YouTube
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A north metro high school student has high hopes for prom. She's trying to get Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio to be her date.
The Champlin Park senior posted a video on YouTube last Friday, asking him to accompany her at the big dance. It already has more than 1,500 views.
Prom is in just four weeks but Georgetta Wuo is still looking for a date.
"Ricky Rubio was the first person I could think of because I love the Timberwolves, I love watching basketball and he's one of my favorite players," Wuo said.
When you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense. Rubio is only 21, while Georgetta and most of her classmates are 18.
"It wouldn't be the awkward older person at a prom, you know ," she said.
And since he's been playing basketball professional since 14, odds are this would be a first for Rubio.
"I don't think he's ever been to prom, so I think it'd be fun for him," said Timberwolves guard J.J. Barea.
Oh yeah, Rubio's teammates are on board too.
"There's no game that night, if Ricky's in town I think he should go," said Timberwolves forward Kevin Love.
"Heck yeah, he should do it. Why not, why not? He's not going to be doing anything!" Timberwolves player Anthony Tolliver said with a laugh.
Tolliver makes a good point. Since his knee injury, Ricky has a lot of free time on his hands.
"He just came out of surgery so I don't know how that's going to go. The dancing might be a problem
But I think he could show up, dressed good and have some fun, I think it'd be good for him," said Barea.
If the allure on prom isn't enough, the NBA veterans are willing to sweeten the pot.
"We can see how much money we can get to put on the table to make him go," Tolliver said. "I think he might go for the right price."
"I think we need to put a little pressure on him, maybe that'll be part of the rookie hazing," Love said.
But just in case Ricky still isn't going for it, Georgetta has a plan B.
"There's a guy that I would ask," she said. "I don't think he knows yet, I've been trying to drop hints, but I don't want to break his heart if Ricky says yes."
We tried contacting Rubio through Twitter to get an answer for Georgetta, but haven't heard back yet. Rubio is in Colorado rehabbing, but should be back in town next week.
