High Point Celebrates 'Tubby Smith Night'
HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) -- High Point University celebrated "Tubby Smith Night" by honoring the Minnesota coach at halftime of the Panthers' game Wednesday night against Wake Forest.
Smith scored 1,589 points at High Point from 1969-73 before beginning a coaching career highlighted by the 1998 national championship at Kentucky and five Southeastern Conference tournament championships. He took over the Golden Gophers in 2007.
Smith said he "was wondering what I did to deserve this" and added that High Point "has meant a lot to me, meant a lot to my family."
