Hibbing Taconite Fined For Air-Quality Violations
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Hibbing Taconite Co. has agreed to pay a more than $15,000 penalty for air-quality violations at its taconite-production facility. The company will also return the facility to compliance.
The Duluth News Tribune reports the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced the decision on Thursday.
According to the PCA, the company's monitoring reports documented many air emissions violations in late 2010 of the plant's operating permit.
Other data showed that the unit failed a performance test in January this year.
The PCA said the unit was retested in February and was in compliance.
