Small Plane Crashes In Hibbing, Pilot Hurt
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a pilot had to be airlifted to a hospital Wednesday after a small plane crashed at the Range Regional Airport in Hibbing.
The Hibbing Fire Department responded at about 12:57 p.m. Wednesday to the airport on a report of a small plane crash. The fire department sent two engines, a battalion chief and a paramedic to the scene. The plane reportedly crashed while landing, and the lone occupant was the pilot.
When firefighters arrived, there was no active fire as a result of the place crash but there was fuel leaking. A blanket of foam was applied to keep the fuel from igniting. The pilot was airlifted to Duluth for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.
What led up to the plane crash is under investigation. The Hibbing Fire Department had the scene cleared after about an hour.
