Hennepin Co. Gets 45 Same-Sex Marriage Applications
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Hennepin County has received more than three-dozen applications for same-sex marriage licenses under Minnesota's new law allowing gay marriage.
Minnesota's largest county received 45 applications Thursday, the first day the county began accepting applications for same-sex marriages. That was more than half of the 87 marriage applications that were received overall that day.
Same-sex marriage applications made up more than half of all marriage applications filed in Hennepin County Thursday.
Ramsey County received 14 same-sex marriage applications while Washington County got two.
In Pipestone County in southwestern Minnesota, which has been accepting applications since Monday, Recorder Mary Ann DeGroot says one couple signed up immediately.
Actual weddings between gay couples can't start until Aug. 1.
