MnDOT: Expect Heavy Traffic On I-35 Due To Grandma's Marathon
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Transportation has a message for motorists traveling on Interstate 35 later this week: expect heavy traffic and delays due to the Grandma's Marathon in Duluth.
MnDOT says heavy traffic levels are expected as travelers head up north to the marathon, which is scheduled for Saturday. However, marathon events begin Thursday and attract up to 60,000 visitors each year.
Lengthy backups are expected in the Pine City/Hinckley area, where traffic is restricted to a single lane on the interstate due to a road resurfacing project.
The Highway 61/London Road and North Shore Scenic Highway will also be closed during the race on Saturday.
MnDOT suggests visitors come early and stay late, or consider taking alternative routes.
